Our community is fortunate in providing many opportunities to young people to participate in enriching Jewish experiences. Through funding by the Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati and administration by the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati, special programs help provide funding for Israel trips and Jewish summer camps.
ISRAEL PROGRAMS:
Grants of up to $6,500 for high school students and $5,000 for young adults are available from the Jewish Federation for approved Israel programs. Click here to see the requirements: https://www.cincyjourneys.org/.
JEWISH CAMPS:
Cincy Journeys helps every child attend overnight Jewish camp and every teen and young adult travel and learn in Israel, giving them the skills, experience, and desire to become tomorrow's community leaders. For more information about scholarships and application processes, see https://www.cincyjourneys.org/.
THE NORTHERN HILLS SYNAGOGUE YOUTH ACTIVITIES SCHOLARSHIP FUND:
The Northern Hills Synagogue Youth Activities Scholarship Fund supports the participation of young people in a variety of United Synagogue local, regional, and national USY or Kadima events. This might include special programs, youth conventions, or other sanctioned events that require expenditure of funds beyond that covered by membership fees.
Recipients of awards from the Youth Scholarship Fund may be asked to speak about their experiences before the congregation, or to help promote United Synagogue youth activities in some other way.
Applications will be evaluated by the scholarship committee on the basis of the merit of the camp or program, in terms of the criteria mentioned above, and the merit of the applicant, as expressed in such ways as involvement in Jewish study, attendance at services, and participation in USY or Kadima. Recipients of awards from the Singerman Youth Fund may be asked to give an oral or poster board presentation to The Spark School. The scholarship committee may offer an applicant an interest free loan in addition to or in place of a grant.
THE LEONARD J. SINGERMAN YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Northern Hills Synagogue also provides funds to our youth to support their participation in Jewish activities. The Leonard J. Singerman Youth Scholarship Fund supports the participation of young people from the congregation in Jewish summer camps and Israel programs. Eligible camps and programs are those which:
- observe kashrut and Shabbat in ways consistent with the teachings of Conservative Judaism, and
- include explicit Jewish educational goals (e.g., Hebrew language, religious observance, Zionism) in their stated objectives.
Applications will be evaluated by the scholarship committee on the basis of the merit of the program and the merit of the applicant as expressed in such ways as involvement in Jewish study, attendance at services, membership in USY or Kadima, and leadership positions held within USY or Kadima.
The scholarship committee may offer an applicant an interest free loan in addition to or in place of a grant.
